Derek Frank is a contemporary percussionist who has a passion for chamber music. He was a founding member of the Colorado New Music Ensemble and is the Principal Percussionist for the ProMusica Orchestra in Phoenix, Arizona. His future ensembles will tour, give master classes, and teach essential entrepreneurship skills at the collegiate level.
In the last 2 years, Derek has enjoyed teaching privately and as a front ensemble tech for winning Fall and Winter marching seasons at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, Arizona. His teaching will continue at the University of Missouri-Kansas City as the Teaching Assistant where he will teach private lessons and the Percussion Techniques course.
He received his Bachelor's at the University of Colorado Boulder and studied with Douglas Walter and Mike Tetreault extensively in chamber, solo, and orchestral music. Derek has performed in master classes with Paul Yancich and Marc Damoulakis of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra for percussion and timpani.
Outside of being a musician, Derek enjoys cooking, craft beer, the climbing gym, and reading.
Derek Frank received this scholarship based on his Junior Jury in Fall 2013.
Derek Frank received a full tuition scholarship, based on his audition, to attend CU Boulder.
