SHORT SYNOPSIS
When a reality show is created about spies, the lines blur between fact and fiction in the shadowy world of political entertainment.

LONG SYNOPSIS
In a time of widespread disillusionment and distrust of our government, a reality TV show about spies is created to win back the faith of the American public. Audiences go undercover on missions around the globe and see real world effects from the narrative the showrunners create. As the first season unfolds, we wonder – how much is real and how much is propaganda? Our charismatic host leads us down the rabbit hole and it becomes impossible to distinguish fact from fiction as the lines blur between reality, television, and movies in an age when everything is on camera.

PLOT SYNOPSIS
Sometime in the not too distant future, a cabal of media executives with an agenda has usurped the power structure of the intelligence community. Aware of growing public distrust and potential for massive societal unrest, these “showrunners” launch an espionage based reality show to appear transparent and trustworthy and win back the confidence of the American people.
The cast of “Espionage Tonight” is pulled from actual operatives, who see the show as their golden parachute out of the spy game, war correspondents with an eye for staging combat and clandestine activities, refugees looking for a fast track to amnesty by appearing as terrorists, actual terrorists seeking to boost their online presence, and an aspiring actress who just wants a shot at the big time – but who may actually be a Russian mole.
All the players are sent on choreographed missions designed for the express purpose of returning the Panama Canal to the full control of the United States, as it once was under Teddy Roosevelt. This maneuver would earn the U.S. trillions of trade dollars and control over tariffs, and go a long way toward reducing the national deficit. The complex scheme involves sabotaging a Chinese high-speed railway across Colombia (a real thing) that would compete with the Canal, and threatening the Canal itself with FARC terrorists who have been supplied explosives by an internationally renowned arms trader – all of whom work for the show. It’s an elaborate ruse designed to make the international trade community feel mortal peril, thereby giving the U.S. a green light to assert greater security and control of the South American region. Audiences have been kept in the loop every step of the way and support the cause, in the tradition of countless intelligence campaigns designed to reengineer global power spheres toward the homeland.
As the body count rises and key cast are killed off for the sake of good drama, the showrunners lose control of their creation and are ultimately brought down by the old guard intelligence operatives they thought they’d supplanted. All the unaired footage and remaining cast of the show scatter to the wind, and may well end up in the hands of the Russians…
