GROMO - Live at Riff Raff's (5/10/14)
GROMO, a New York City high school student wakes up every day knowing exactly what he wants to do: make music. With his steely determination and remarkable talent as a producer / DJ / guitarist / songwriter he has successfully broken into the New York club scene. He is bringing his music to international audiences, with appearances at ULTRA Music Festivals in Miami (the youngest DJ to ever spin the festival at 16), Europe, Japan and Bali. His work and influences continue to evolve, in tandem with the ever-progressing music landscape.
His natural curiosity about music lead him to his passion – as a child, he would listen to his father’s eclectic music collection and analyze songs, breaking them down to their most basic elements; rhythm, melody, and harmony. GROMO (Brae Gromek) picked up a guitar and emulated his musical heroes at the time – heavy metal bands. He eventually outgrew metal’s boundaries and attitudes and expanded his horizons to the world of electronic music. Despite this departure from metal, his edge carried through.
“Electronic music completely changed my perspective on life, and opened up a whole new direction,” GROMO says. As his skill and confidence as a producer increased, he broadened his influences to incorporate all of his wide-ranging musical interests. This inspiration has sparked imaginative rearrangements, and forward-thinking musicality.
“I started reaching back to all the music I first heard as a kid for ideas,” he says. “I realized I love everything – jazz, blues, pop, big band, classical, rock n’ roll, and metal.” He believes he can learn from all genres to make his own music more compelling. “Song ideas can come from anything, and all music is good.”
With an open-minded attitude and in bold pursuit of his passion, GROMO is resolved to using everything he has learned and everything he’s heard to create his own unique brand of music.
