Flatbasset Radio: Episode #87 — 10/30/2016

Check out their latest single "Dardanelles." As you can hear, it's a delightful little tune. If the Talking Heads had formed in 1996 they might have put out something that sounds like this.

The Devil Has the Best Tuna

Dardanelles from Minneapolis indie rockers The Dirty Banks (first featured on the blog last year, Happy Bank Holiday) is a chunky, fuzzy delight that sounds like The Talking Heads roping in Mark E Smith for vocal duties on the chorus. It's a compellingly curious mix of meaty rock with a side helping of funk and an anti establishment aperitif. They've been called a band to watch in 2016 and while that's undoubtedly true The Dirty Banks are also a band you have to listen to.

10 New Twin Cities Bands to Watch - The Current Blog

"This song (In Retrograde) is pure ’90s alt bliss, with vocalist Danaca Booth channeling Blind Melon’s Shannon Hoon with her too-cool vocal delivery and buoyant synthesized flute parts adding a hint of psychedelia. Their entire four-song EP is worth a listen." - Andrea Swensson

The Aural Premonition

"The Dirty Banks' talent does not proclaim itself with bright flashing colors or costumes, fancy electronics, or a table of overpriced merch. It's in Danaca's pleasing hazy vocals, the fact that every member of the band sings, the genuine stage presence that Jon projects, and how focused they are on making the music they call their own." -- Kelsey Simpkins

Reviler

"The EP has a strutting 90’s alternative feel. The grooves are subtle and consistent, and the guitars and keys cut across the ramshackle vocals. When thinking of 90’s rock, lean more Jane’a Addiction than Pavement." -- Josh Keller
